Connect Xero
Authorise Xero in bluprnts, choose which organisation to read from, and understand what the connection card is telling you about the state of your books.
Connecting Xero authorises bluprnts to read your accounting data. It takes one trip through Xero's own authorisation screen, and nothing in your model changes until you choose to fill something in.
1. Open the Accounting page#
In the left sidebar, under Account, select Integration.
With nothing connected you'll see "No accounting system connected" and the list of providers.
2. Connect#
Select Connect beside Xero. You'll be taken to Xero to sign in and authorise access, then returned to bluprnts.
3. Choose the organisation#
If your Xero login covers more than one organisation, a Read from picker appears on the connection card. Choose the one this bluprnts company corresponds to.
The picker only shows when the authorisation actually covers more than one organisation — if you have a single Xero org, there is nothing to choose.
Reading the connection card#
Once connected, the card shows:
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Organisation | The Xero organisation being read |
| Status | Connected, or Needs reconnecting |
| Downloaded | When bluprnts last took a copy of your data |
| Position read at | The month end the figures are read at — the month end before your forecast starts |
Those last two answer different questions and both matter. Downloaded is how fresh bluprnts' copy is. Position read at is the date the opening position is being taken from, which is pinned to your forecast's start rather than to how far your books happen to run.
Two warnings you may see#
"Nothing has been posted for over a fortnight." Your ledger is stale. bluprnts can still read it, but anything it reads will be as out of date as the books are. Bring your bookkeeping up to date before you rely on the figures.
"This connection has lapsed." The authorisation has expired. Nothing is lost — select Reconnect and it picks up where it left off.
One company, one system#
A company reads from a single accounting system. To change which one, disconnect the current one first — see Disconnect & troubleshoot.
