Cost fields
Every field on a bluprnts cost — type, amount, payment type and schedule, VAT, dates, and the capital expenditure fields for depreciation and instalments.
Reference for every field on a cost. For the walkthrough, see Add or edit a cost.
Basics#
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Name | What the cost is |
| Type | The category. See the list below |
| Amount | The amount paid each time it's paid — not a monthly equivalent |
| Summary | An optional description |
| Colour | Accent colour on charts and timelines |
| Start date / End date | The months it runs between. Pinned to month end |
Amount is the field most often misread. For a quarterly cost, it is the quarterly payment; bluprnts smooths it across the months between payments for the profit and loss, and moves the cash on the payment months.
Payment type#
| Type | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Recurring | Paid repeatedly on its schedule |
| One-off | Paid once |
| Capital expenditure | Bought once, capitalised as a fixed asset, then depreciated over its life |
Payment schedule#
Monthly, Quarterly, Bi-annually or Annually — how often a recurring cost is paid.
Capital expenditure fields#
Only used when the payment type is capital expenditure:
| Field | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Depreciation months | The life the asset is written down over on the profit and loss | 60 |
| Payment months | Monthly instalments the purchase is paid over. 1 is a single up-front payment | 1 |
The two are independent. The asset is capitalised at full cost the month it's acquired however the cash is paid; an unpaid balance is held as a capex creditor. A single payment settles on your usual creditor terms, while instalments pay on their own fixed schedule and bypass creditor-day timing.
VAT#
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| VAT applicable | Whether VAT is reclaimable on this cost. On by default |
| VAT override | A rate for this cost, instead of the company rate |
