Employee fields
Every field on a bluprnts employee — role, department, status, salary, headcount, hiring waves, on-costs, bonus and dates.
Reference for every field on an employee. For the walkthrough, see Add or edit an employee.
An employee record is really a role, which is why it carries a headcount rather than being one person. A role with three heads costs three salaries.
Basics#
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Job title | The role |
| Name | Optional. Blank means an open role rather than a named person |
| Department | Leadership, Engineering, Sales, Operations or Retail |
| Status | Hired — already on payroll. Planned — a future hire |
| Summary | An optional description |
| Colour | Accent colour on charts and timelines |
Pay#
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Annual salary | Gross salary per head, per year |
| Number of employees | How many heads this role carries |
| Start date / End date | The months the role runs between. Pinned to month end |
Hiring waves#
Instead of every head starting at once, a role can carry a ramp — a schedule of waves, each adding a number of heads in a given month. A role's headcount is the sum of its waves.
With no waves set, the role falls back to its number of employees across the whole period between its start and end dates.
On-costs#
The employer costs that sit on top of salary:
| Field | Default |
|---|---|
| National insurance rate | Falls back to the company's employer's NIC rate |
| Pension contribution | 5% |
| Bonus | 0 |
| Bonus month | April |
Salary plus these is what's known as the loaded cost — see Loaded cost.
Company-level settings#
Employer's NIC is set once for the company, in Tax under Company options, and applies to every role that doesn't override it. See Corporation tax, NIC & duty.
